Sakai Evangelical Churchs weekly bulletin includes a short spiritual column written by the pastor called "Jiryu". Its been ten years since I edited this article and published a devotional pamphlet called When the Breeze Blows. Therefore, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the church, it was decided to make a similar new booklet. This "Nagare no Banko" is a devotional book that I edited looking back on the 10 years since then. The title of the booklet is "On the edge of the stream." This is a phrase that appears in Psalm 1. The psalm begins with the blessing, "Blessed are you," and the Hebrew word used in it is plural, indicating the diversity of grace that Christians receive. And those who receive this blessing are said to be "trees planted by the waterways." "Waterway" at this time is also plural. The English translation uses streams (NIV) and rivers (NKJ).The church is the bank of the river itself, where grace, forgiveness, healing, comfort, etc. come in many forms and abundance. The trees on its banks will bear fruit. Joy in good times, perseverance in times of adversity, trust and comfort in times of trial. For a tree planted by a stream will give birth to new life and "its leaves will not wither." Its a promise.Sakai Evangelical Church is delivering this booklet in gratitude for being on the banks of the flow for 70 years since its founding.Sakai Evangelical Church Pastor Akira Gakiya
